Having Problems Submitting Forms?
We have had reports that some people are having problems submitting forms from our Web site.
There are two methods that forms can normally be submitted. One is through a CGI script and
one as by a "mailto:" method. Many forms on other web pages are submitted using
CGI scripts; however, the AmiWest web site uses the mailto: method.
When a CGI script is used it must be placed on your server and configured to send, from the
server, an email message. When the "mailto" method is used the browser handles everything
and an email message is sent directly. The only problem is that this message is formatted
in a strange way. It tends to be "machine" readable and not "human" readable. This is
both fine and desireable for our purposes since we have ARexx scripts that parse the form message and automatically
updates a database.
Your browser must be set up to process mailto: messages internally since the form
message is generated by the browser. It is very important that you configure the mail server
address to your SMTP server (i.e., smtp.domainname or mail.domainname; an example:
smtp.calweb.com is our server's SMTP server).
With IBrowse you can configure both your internal SMTP address and choose
an external mail client to send normal email messages. IBrowse knows which one to use.
With AWeb you can still configure both, but, to get the forms to work correctly, you have to go into the Network Settings,
select "Mail/News" and under the "Mail Request" uncheck the "use external mailer"
item, and then click on USE.
Forms have been successfully sent from the three Amiga browsers (IBrowse, Voyager,
and AWeb), and Netscape for both the PC and Mac, with Internet Explorer for the PC, and with Opera.
Forms have also been successfully sent from AOL.
We will send an acknowledgement back when we receive your form data. This will
be sent to the email address specified as your "Return-To:" address or your "From:"
address. It may be a day or two before this acknowledgement is sent.
What to do if forms still don't work
If you still can't get the form to work, you can always contact us in an alternate
way. You can email us at theprez@infostations.com,
